COMMITMENT KEY TO JAPAN SALES.(Business)

Byline: Alan D. Abbey Business writer

Getting your business going in Japan is not as difficult as it once was, but still requires a commitment of as long as two years, New York state's man in Tokyo said Monday.

Francis T. Vaughan, Far East director of the state Department of Economic Development, said Japan has realized it must open its borders to foreign businesses.

"The Japanese are changing because of a lot of pressure from the outside," said Vaughan, who is in New York this week to meet with companies interested in selling their products in Japan and the Far East. "If you have a good product and it fits the market, you can sell it."
