FED:Police recapture escapee

A man who escaped from Victorian detectives at Brisbane Airport while being extradited
to Melbourne managed to swim across the Brisbane River before he was recaptured several
suburbs away.

Victorian homicide detectives were accompanying 24-year-old KAYD THORP to Brisbane
airport when he escaped around 3pm.

Specialist police units including the dog squad arrested the fugitive more than six
hours later in Cambridge Parade .. Manly .. a suburb on the south side of the river.

The street has rows of shops and a residential area.

THORP is facing a string of charges over two separate assaults in Victoria .. one in
which victim CLINT BASSETT later died.

He'll now likely face a Brisbane court tomorrow charged with escaping custody.
