Fed: Gov't wants colluded price investigation before Christmas

The federal government's under fire for its slow reaction to anti-competitive behaviour
by fuel companies.

It's ordered the competition watchdog to investigate before Christmas whether anti-competitive
behaviour is pushing up petrol prices.

But fair trading specialist FRANK ZUMBO .. from the University of New South Wales ..

says the government's been aware of the situation for two years .. and it's a bit rich
to be taking action now.

Consumer Affairs Minister CRAIG EMERSON's written to the ACCC asking it to investigate
claims price collusion is taking place in the petrol price cycle.
